His breakthrough in Indian cinema came with the 1977 film “Paheli,” where he was introduced to filmmaker Tarachand Barjatya by his sister-in-law Tabassum. His small screen debut came in Ramanand Sagar’s “Vikram Aur Betaal” (1985), setting the stage for his iconic portrayal of Lord Rama in the epic TV series “Ramayan” (1986).

Iconic Roles and Recognition: Arun Govil’s portrayal of Lord Rama in Ramanand Sagar’s “Ramayan” catapulted him to unparalleled fame. The series, which aired from 1987 to 1988, became a cultural phenomenon, and Govil’s portrayal of the divine character earned him the Uptron Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 1988. He continued his association with Sagar, reprising his role as Rama in “Luv Kush” and “Jai Veer Hanuman.”
