The year 2011 marked a significant milestone as he joined the Indian Police Service (IPS) in the Tamil Nadu cadre.

Over the course of nine years in civil service, Annamalai served diligently at various locations in Tamil Nadu. Notable positions included Assistant Superintendent of Police in Karkala, Karnataka, and Superintendent of Police in Udupi and Chikmagalur.
