Nandamuri Lakshmi Parvathi, an Indian politician and the widow of the renowned actor and politician N. T. Rama Rao, has had a fascinating journey through life, marked by her foray into politics, her academic pursuits, and even a venture into the world of cinema.

Before her notable involvement in politics, Lakshmi Parvathi was married to a harikatha artist named Veeragandham Venkata Subba Rao. However, the marriage eventually ended in separation. Her life took a significant turn when she crossed paths with N. T. Rama Rao, a legendary figure in Indian cinema and politics. Although their union was unofficial, it was a significant development in her life. In 1993, N. T. Rama Rao and Lakshmi Parvathi began living together, capturing the attention and curiosity of the public.

Lakshmi Parvathi’s academic pursuits are worth mentioning as well. In the year 2000, she successfully completed her education in Telugu Literature from the Telugu University of Telangana. This academic background would later serve as a foundation for her political career.

Her journey in the political arena began in earnest after her association with N. T. Rama Rao. Following the demise of the legendary actor-politician, Lakshmi Parvathi decided to step into the world of politics herself. In 1995, she founded the NTR Telugu Desam Party (NTRTDP) and contested elections. Her maiden foray into politics saw her secure victory as an MLA from the Pathapatnam Assembly constituency. Notably, she received support from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during these elections.

During the 1996 elections, NTR (TDP) fielded candidates in 42 constituencies. Despite securing an impressive 3,249,267 votes, the party failed to win a single seat. Undeterred by this setback, Lakshmi Parvathi later joined the Indian National Congress party, demonstrating her resilience and commitment to politics.

In 1999, Lakshmi Parvathi contested elections for the Andhra Pradesh Assembly from the Sompeta and Eluru constituencies. However, luck was not on her side as she faced defeat in both seats. Her bid for the Eluru constituency saw her polling a meager 1,500 votes, highlighting the challenges and competitive nature of Indian politics.

Despite facing ups and downs in her political career, Lakshmi Parvathi continued to remain active in the political landscape. Her journey took an interesting turn when, on November 6, 2019, she was appointed as the incumbent chair of the Telugu Academy. This appointment underscored her commitment to promoting and preserving the Telugu language and culture.

However, Lakshmi Parvathi’s story is not limited to politics alone. In 2021, she made her debut in the world of cinema by acting in the film “Radhakrishna.” This film was particularly notable for its focus on traditional handicrafts, specifically the art of Koyya dolls, or Koyya Bommalu.

In conclusion, Nandamuri Lakshmi Parvathi’s life has been a remarkable journey filled with twists and turns. From her early marriage to a harikatha artist, to her unconventional relationship with N. T. Rama Rao, and her subsequent entry into the political arena, her life is a testament to her resilience and determination. Her academic achievements and later appointment as the chair of Telugu Academy demonstrate her multifaceted personality and her commitment to various aspects of Telugu culture. Furthermore, her venture into cinema in 2021 added another dimension to her already diverse and intriguing life story.
