His family, belonging to the Garhwali Rajput community, played a significant role in shaping his values and beliefs.

Adityanath’s parents, Anand Singh Bisht and Savitri Devi, were devout Hindus, and from an early age, he imbibed the principles of spirituality and discipline. The familial environment laid the foundation for his later association with the Gorakhnath Math, a revered Hindu monastery in Gorakhpur, where he became the head priest.

Yogi Adityanath completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Science from the Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University in Uttarakhand. His academic pursuits, however, took a backseat as he delved deeper into the realm of spirituality and religious studies.

Religious Calling and Spiritual Journey:

Driven by a profound sense of spirituality, Adityanath became associated with the Nath tradition, a sect of Hinduism known for its ascetic practices and emphasis on meditation. At the young age of 21, he renounced his family life and entered the Gorakhnath Math. His commitment and dedication to the principles of the Nath sect were soon recognized, and he emerged as a prominent figure within the monastery.

Eventually, Yogi Adityanath ascended to the position of Mahant, or head priest, of the Gorakhnath Math, succeeding Mahant Avaidyanath. This marked a crucial turning point in his life, as he seamlessly merged his spiritual pursuits with an active role in public life.

Yogi Adityanath’s foray into politics occurred in the late 1990s when he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). His strong base in the Gorakhpur region and his influence among the Hindu sadhus made him a valuable asset for the party. He was elected as the Member of Parliament from the Gorakhpur constituency for five consecutive terms, starting from 1998.

Known for his outspoken nature and unapologetic stance on Hindutva, Yogi Adityanath became a prominent face of the BJP in Uttar Pradesh. His tenure as an MP was marked by a focus on development projects in his constituency, alongside his active participation in debates on national issues.
